There are no suburban commuter passenger train services in Christchurch or passenger train services from - Christchurch to Dunedin, Christchurch to Invercargill, Christchurch to Nelson, Christchurch to Mt Cook/Aoraki, Christchurch to Te Anau or Christchurch to Queenstown.
There are, however, two scenic train journeys available from Christchurch.
The Coastal Pacific heads north towards Picton and offers great views of the Pacific and Kaikoura Coast.
The TranzAlpine heads west across the Canterbury Plains, through the towering Southern Alps and on to Greymouth on the West Coast of New Zealand.
Both train journeys depart daily with the Coastal Pacific running only in Summer.
